The Author

Peter Caldwell

Author and photographer, Peter Caldwell continues to play a major role in the documentation of the Moloka‘i-O‘ahu canoe race. His original edition of Moloka‘i-O‘ahu Through the Years has become the standard reference volume for the history of the race.

Paddling for Anuenue Canoe Club, he is a familiar figure on race days and contributes his photographs regularly to Pacific Paddler magazine. He has an excellent perspective on the Kaiwi Channel gained from eleven crossings as a paddler and a steersman.

A forty-four-year resident of the Islands, he is a retired Honolulu pediatrician and now is the author of seven books including the award-winning 2013 second edition of Adventurer’s Hawai‘i.
